Ctenanthe burle-marxii

Family: Marantaceae

The Fishbone prayer plant is native to the region from the south of Central America to the south east of Brazil. The name prayer plant comes from a shared trait all Marantaceae have in that they fold up their leaves at night like a gesture of prayer. Purple – green stems with a purple underside to the leaves make this maranta eye catching from any angle. One of the smaller species of prayer plants so good for planting in a reasonable sized terrarium / vivarium.

Grows up to 40cm. Leaves 10cm.
Water and mist enough to maintain a moderately moist soil and humid environment.
Low – medium light levels avoiding direct sun.
Prefers a soil that is well draining and rich in organic matter.
