Dischidia ovata

Family: Apocynaceae

Dischidia ovata, the Watermelon Dischidia, is a creeping epiphyte found from South East Asia to North Australia. It is often referred to as String of Melons as the leaves look like watermelons growing on a vine. In good light the newer leaves will develop a beautiful red tint. Dischidia are epiphytic and grow best in a coarse, free draining soil mix and have similar care requirements to Hoya. They do not require watering very often at all.

The 8cm option is a large plant for the pot size. It is grown in a woody coir husk to replicate its epiphytic growing conditions and the pot has a metal hanger attached allow you to easily display the plant.

Vine will grow continuously, up to 4m. Leaves 4cm.
Likes a drier soil and reasonable humidity.
Bright, indirect light. Avoid too much direct sun. Will tolerate low light.
Fast draining soil that does not hold water or grow mounted as an epiphyte.
