Ruellia makoyana is often called the Trailing Velvet Plant and Monkey Plant and is native to Brazil. Ruellia makoyana thrives when grown in terrarium conditions as it does need high humidity, it can also be grown as a house plant when acclimated and makes a fantastic hanging basket or potted plant, especially in a greenhouse.

Soft, velvety olive-grey leaves with contrasting silver-white veins and purple underneath grow to around 8cm. Pink, tubular flowers grow from the tops of the stems from late summer into winter. Will take quite cool temps down to around 5°c.

Grows to around 30cm.
Water well and allow to dry out somewhat before watering again.
Part shade – quite bright, indirect light.
Moist loamy soil, rich in organic matter.
